Jaehyun Lim

Hi! I'm a Master's student in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University. My research interests are in energy-efficient computer architectures and compilers. I am currently working at the abstract lab with Prof. Brandon Lucia and Prof. Olivia Hsu on spatial dataflow architectures.

In my free time, I like to make ceramics, sing, and do graphic design.

Projects

🌊 RipTide Jr.

C++, MLIR • May 2026

We created a cache prefetching system for RipTide, an ultra-low power spatial dataflow architecture. We leveraged the unique properties of dataflow execution to insert prefetch instructions in the dataflow graph, finding opportunities for stride and indirect prefetching. We won Best Project in the Spring '26 offering of 18-742, CMU's graduate computer architecture course.

Wavefront

Javascript • Feb 2026

Wavefront is a visualizer for the execution of dataflow programs, allowing for a better debugging experience. It shows a cycle-by-cycle view of the dataflow graph, showing which instructions are firing, and where the tokens are flowing.

Sniff Pittsburgh

Python, C, LoRaWAN, Flask, HTML, CSS, Docker • Dec 2025

We created a low-cost, mobile air quality monitoring system to be mounted on Pittsburgh's bikeshare bicycles. We won first runner-up to the David Tuma Undergraduate Project Award, the ECE department's award for most outstanding laboratory project of the semester.

MLIR Compiler logo

MLIR Compiler

C++, MLIR • June 2025

Loxtite is a toy scripting language based on Robert Nystrom's Lox language. I implemented a compiler for Loxtite using MLIR as an exercise to learn how compilers work, and to do research in domain-specific compilers.

SUBLEQ Processor

SystemVerilog • Jan 2025

For the 2025 iteration of Build18, CMU's hardware hackathan, my team designed and built a SUBLEQ (Subtract and Branch if Less than or Equal to Zero) processor on an FPGA.

ATC on a Chip

SystemVerilog, cocoTB, Verilator, Yosys, OpenLane • May 2024

As part of Prof. Bill Nace's open source tapeout course, I implemented a simplified air traffic controller (ATC) system on a chip. The chip was fabricated on a 130nm process through SkyWater Technology's open source PDK.
